TORBAY HOSPITAL LEAGUE OF FRIENDS
HOME
OUR PURPOSE

The Torbay Hospital League of Friends was set up in 1954 to provide amenities and services for .  Over the years it has become one of the leading Leagues in the country providing many gifts - large and small - amounting to millions of pounds.

As well as its fund raising activities the League also provides;

  • canteen facilities in the Outpatients department and other waiting areas throughout the hospital
  • a Linen League where volunteers meet weekly to make special articles for wards and departments
  • portable telephones for all wards throughout the hospital, and
  • voluntary guides for patients visiting the various clinics
The League is able to enhance what the Trust provides and buy 'extras' that can bring the most advanced methods of treatment to benefit local people and visitors.  Its members benefit the Hospital by;
  • supporting it's work
  • recruiting volunteers
  • maintaining a relationship with the volunteers
  • creating a link between the Hospital and the community it serves, and
  • the provision of funds to supplement its resources
The latest appeals have included
  • Caring for Children that has raised £1m for the development of the children's wards.
  • The Cataract Unit (visit www.sdhct.nhs.uk for more information)
  • Support for the Herald Express Heart Appeal - we are endevouring to match the Herald  Express £ for £ to a maximum of £500,000.00.
